RYBA Umpire Information

Please fill out the following form to be considered for umpiring this year. 

RYBA is looking for umpires for the upcoming baseball season!

  • Umpires must be 16 or older
  • Umpires must have a valid driver's license
  • Umpires must supply their own equipment
  • Strongly encouraged to have a cell phone in possession at all times

RYBA Umpire Pay Rates

RYBA pays the following for the House program
  • RYBA House Games $45 for MSHSL certified umpires
  • RYBA House Games $40 for uncertified umpires
  • RYBA Fall ball games $40
RYBA pays the following for the Traveling program
  • RYBA Traveling tournaments $55 for MSHSL certified and $45 non-certified **
  • RYBA Traveling Metro games $55 MSHSL certified and non-certified
  • RYBA Traveling scrimmages $40

          **Non-Cert Umpires in 2010 paid $55 for tourney games continue to receive in 2011

Floaters may be used as determined by the umpire coordinator and will receive partial compensation.

  • RYBA Floater regular season $25
  • RYBA Floater tournament $30 (per 2 game times)

MSHSL Certification

RYBA encourages umpires to achieve MSHSL certification and pays additional per game fees in most circumstances.  The material and certification process does take a time commitment but can help you as an umpire continue to develop your knowledge base and/or be a refresher to your skill base.

Umpire Certification Expense
Umpires that receive their first MSHSL certification and umpire more than five games for RYBA may request the certification expense be reimbursed for 2012.  Reimbursement will be made at the end of the RYBA Season.  Please requests this reimbursement to Bruce Kall prior to July 15th.

RYBA Umpire Coordinator and Head Umpire

 Each year we hire one person to be responsible for all activities associated with managing, mentoring, and organizing our program umpires. To apply for the head umpire/coordinator role, please fill out this application.

Description: Recruit, train, schedule, supervise umpires for all scheduled RYBA games RYBA will provide games schedules.

Expectations

  • All RYBA House games have an umpire ( Goal of < 1% no shows; less than 10 games in a 1000 game season)
  • All RYBA Metro and Travel Tournaments ( Goal of 0% no shows)
  • Develop a base of experienced, reliable, well trained umpires
  • Maintain a database of umpires with ratings, feedback and attendance 

Primary Tasks

  • Recruit qualified certified and non-certified umpires.
  • Provide information for new certified umpires and information and training for prospective new non-certified umpires
  • Create and distribute a package for the umpires, which includes: Copies of NFHS rules  & RYBA rule supplements,  Information on equipment needed and availability, Set of umpire score sheets, Rates of pay per game (House League, Metro, Travel and House Tournaments for certified versus non-certified umpires), 
  • Schedule umpires for the RYBA scrimmages, House league, Traveling Metro League regular season, Traveling tournaments and the end of year House playoff tournaments as defined by the provided schedules provided by RYBA.
  • May optionally utilize a “floater umpire” and the RYBA Field Supervisor in case of no shows to ensure all games have an umpire present
  • Usage of standard Arbiter umpire web-based scheduling system
  • Work with reported issues with umpires during the season
  • Collect all game score from umpires for RYBA house league games (umpires must turn in scores before being paid for umpiring a game)
  • Available from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm on game nights to assist with no shows
  • Available and on-site at RBC for travel and house tournaments
  • Tabulate umpire game totals and provide summary for RYBA treasurer every two weeks including umpires level of certification (certified/non-certified) ( All umpires my have a current home address and SSN on file with RYBA to be paid for umpiring RYBA games)
  • Reschedule umpires for all rainouts or reason game times or dates are changed
  • Umpire in chief, randomly monitor games and umpires across all schedules games and levels
  • Attend monthly board meetings from Apr through Sep and report on Umpire status
  • Organize an end of year umpire event to wrap up the season and gather feedback
