Rochester Youth Baseball Association

The RYBA traveling program has been designed to take players to the next level of skill development and competition. Players will attend each tryout session and will be evaluated based on these aspects of baseball:

• Fielding – Large percentage of assessment.  The technical form and success rate (Grounders and fly balls)
• Throwing – Large percentage of assessment.  The accuracy and arm strength of throwing fundamentals (Measured throughout all drills)
• Hitting – Large percentage of assessment.   The technical form and success ( Contact & Power/Strength) (Pitched and Machines) 
• Speed – Small percentage of assessment (Identifies base-running potential)
• Pitching – Small percentage of assessment. Identifies potential pitching candidates and helps team balancing (Accuracy & Arm Strength)
• Attitude – An important part of the assessment, especially for players close on decisions/selections (Listens, follows directions and shows appropriate respect to coaches and evaluators)

Each player will typically be assigned a score of 1-5 (or 1-10) for each evaluated skill. Throughout the evaluation sessions, each player will be evaluated by multiple people from the coaching and traveling staff.  We do this to ensure equity by varying the perspectives.  Also, the different skills will be evaluated multiple times throughout the evaluations in an effort to ensure that an accurate assessment is made.

At the end of the evaluation sessions, the coaches will provide the selection information.  

Players should plan on attending all tryout sessions for their age group.  Ages are determined by the players age on April 30th of the tryout year. 

Players that are not selected for traveling will report to the assigned majors/minors tryout regions as communicated.

MARCH DATES:

11 year olds: 3/19-3/26

12 year olds: 3/20-3/27

13 year olds: 3/20-3/27

14 year olds: 3/19-3/26

APRIL DATES:

10U year olds: 4/9-4/12
