The National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) issued changes in 2011 for much of the high school levels due to the safety of many composite bats. Most National and Regional youth sports organizations deferred the change until 2012 including RYBA.
RYBA plans to follow many youth sports organizations in Minnesota with implementations of the new bat rules in 2012. These organizations include Metro Baseball League (www.mbl.bz), Metro Baseball Tournaments (www.mbt.bz) and Gopher State Baseball (myas.org).
See the appropriate Grade Level rules for bat restrictions and guidelines for all of the grade level ages.
The National HS Leagues has adopted new rules for bats (starting in 2012). The various organizations around the country are adopting the rules with some slight variations so pay attention to the rules for each traveling tournament you participate in.
Barrel Bat Rules (2 5/8" or 2 3/4"), Effective January 1, 2012
Small Barrel Baseball Bat Rules (2 1/4" or less) Effective January 1, 2012

Rochester tournaments utilize MBT rules for bat size by age below:
10 & Under - Only bats with 2 1/4" diameter are allowed
11,12,13 year olds - 2 3/4" or 2 5/8" diameter with length - weight ratio of Minus 10 or less. All 2 1/4"diameters are allowed.
14 year olds - 2 3/4" or 2 5/8" diameter with length - weight ratio of Minus 5 or less. All 2 1/4"diameters are allowed.
15 year olds - will follow the new bat standards adopted by the National Federation of State High School Associations for the season. Please read information at www.nfhs.org
Note: MYAS (Gopher State) does allow 10 year olds to use larger diameter bats but Rochester tournaments will not allow them at that age.
The NFHS website indicates the following regarding legal bats with the new BBCOR stamps. http://www.mme.wsu.edu/~ssl/certified/bbcor/certified.html (The NFHS indicates Washington State University posts a list of bats that may be used)
We would expect many bat manufacturers to be open about selling off inventory this year due to the change, but please be careful.
