Giving all kids a chance to have fun playing the game of baseball!

Welcome!

All parents (guardians/relatives) want to see their kids make friends, have fun and experience new things.  This league was created with all those things in mind so that kids with special needs have that opportunity.

  • Your child will make new friends by being part of a team.

  • Your child will have a fun with the weekly practice and activities.

  • Your child will experience the game of baseball.

Registration

To register for the league, players must be registered as part the overall RYBA Registration process.  See RYBA Registration Information for dates, location and registration forms for signup.  Since this league is designed to accommodate kids with all ranges of disabilities, we also require an additional Participation Form to be completed and provided as part of a player’s registration in this league.  This information is used to plan for any special needs and to ensure eligibility for the league.

Representative/s from the league will be available to assistant with either form during registration nights.  Additional questions can be directed to the Committee Chairpersons for this League.

Questions/Answers:

If you have any questions not addressed here or need clarification, feel free to contact the Committee Chairpersons for this League.

  1. Is this the right league for my child?

Consider the following questions:

  • Do you already use or qualify for other programs offered by the city through Adaptive Recreation?

  • Does your child have an IEP through the school system to receive special needs services?

  • Your child can not be integrated into the regular RYBA league due to a disability which prevents them from functioning at or near their peers?

If you answer yes to all the items, there is a good chance this is the right fit for your child.  If you answered no to any of above items, please contact the Committee Chairpersons for this League or visit with us at registration to discuss participation.  Our intent is not to exclude but to ensure your child is in a program that will fit their needs.

  1. What night does the league play?

League will be once a week, on Tuesday evenings.

  1. When does the league start and end?

We will start on June 12th and end on July 24th (no play on July 3rd)

  1. What time will my son/daughter be playing?

Actual times will be determined based on the number of players signed up due to new field arrangement this year.  In the past, we have had both 6:00pm and 7:00pm start times for the younger and older kids respectively.

  1. Where will practices and games be?

We will be playing on the new field in the Roy Watson Youth Sports Complex (41st Street NW & West River Road).  As you enter the baseball field complex area, the field is the first one on the left.

  1. Is this a competitive league?

No.  This program is available for kids to have fun and learn about baseball. Games are not tracked and all kids get to play and bat.

  1. Will the kids be pitched to?

No.  All kids will be using a tee.  Exceptions may be made only if a parent/guardian pitch to their child AND we can maintain the safety of all the kids on the field.

  1. Will there be a game schedule and practice schedule?

No.  The current format provides the same start time every week with the same duration (approx 50 minutes).  During this time, the team will warm-up, run drills and play a shorten game (approx 3 innings).  Due to the new field arrangements, this format may be modified slightly based on number of league members so the coaches will be able to answer more about the weekly routine after teams are formed.

  1. When will I know what team my son/daughter will be playing on?

Teams will be formed the first week in May so all players should be contacted by their coach on or before Memorial Weekend.

  1. Do I need to be on the field with my son/daughter?

Only if desired.  Other high school and adult baseball teams will be available each week to help the coaches run the drills and be by the kids to maintain a safe environment for all the kids.

  1. Do I need to stay at the field with my son/daughter?

Yes!  Our coaches and player volunteers are not trained to deal with behavioral or medical situations which may arise.  It does not have to be parent or relative but must be someone who has responsibility for the player such as a paraprofessional or aid.  If your child is disruptive or presents a danger to other players, the coaches and league representatives have the right to have the child removed immediately.

  1. Can I volunteer to help in any way?

Yes.  Contact the Committee Chairpersons for this League.
